MBA
University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) offers a full-time, one-year MBA program. The program is suited for those who want to further their education, or who are undergoing a career change. Included in the MBA program experience is a compulsory international study module at a foreign business school to enhance students’ international exposure. The MBA program at USB helps students develop a global mindset. USB was also the first school from an African university to receive all three international accreditations, from AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.
Every MBA student whilst completing his or her academic studies at USB, follows the personal leadership development journey in the leadership development module. The module uses evidential theory and content to stimulate the thinking, learning and development of the individual as a responsible leader. Students acquaint themselves with the theory and practice of responsible leadership through exploring and enhancing personal authentic leadership, narrative learning, experiential learning, work-based and action learning, reflective learning, and development potential.
The USB MBA program consists of 18 compulsory modules and various electives. The core compulsory modules are designed to give students the foundation knowledge in business administration. The compulsory modules include accounting for decision-making, business in society, digital enterprise management, economics for managers, strategic marketing and branding, leadership development, managerial accounting, human capital management and perspectives on African frontiers. For further study, students can choose two electives from the list of topics. The choices include: innovation, technology, operations, strategy, marketing, leadership, finance, project management, entrepreneurship, and management enhancement.
The international study module at the University of Stellenbosch Business School is a compulsory component of the MBA program. The aim of the study abroad module is to develop business managers with global mindsets – preparing students to work in a global environment, helping them to understand cultural differences and turning cultural competence into a competitive advantage. The school wants to develop its MBA students into leaders with an awareness of the ethics and values of today’s business climate. The locations for the international study module include Argentina, Columbia, Egypt, France, China, Canada, Singapore, Ireland, Italy, Rwanda, Kenya, USA, UK, and Singapore, at a partner business school of the University of Stellenbosch.
Students applying for the MBA program should have an undergraduate bachelor’s or honors degree, and at least three years of prior relevant work experience. There is a wider access program in place at USB, called the assessment and recognition of prior learning process.
