MBA
Gonzaga Graduate School of Business has an intriguing philosophy. It’s motto – “It’s business. It’s personal” – is a snapshot of the school’s values, which are rooted in the Jesuit understanding that business decisions have ethical implications. The school is part of Gonzaga University, a private, Jesuit university located in Spokane, Washington. The school’s AACSB-accredited MBA program explicitly aims “to inspire men and women to become innovative and ethical business leaders who will use their talents to create a vibrant workplace and a better world”.
Founded in 1961, Gonzaga's Master of Business Administration (MBA) program has been producing business leaders for over 50 years, and has a glittering alumni network to show for it. Candidates who demonstrate the greatest potential for academic and professional success are welcome to apply. A baccalaureate degree is essential, though work experience is not. That said, it is recommended to have at least two years of experience, while most applicants to the school’s graduate programs have been working for around five years.
To apply, candidates must submit the standard tranche of documents and proofs: a resume, an online application with responses to essay questions such as “What matters to you most and why?”, recommendations, university transcripts, and GMAT scores (average GMAT across the graduate school is 540). Tuition costs US$32,175 for the entire program.
The Gonzaga MBA's focus is on the familiar trio of quality of education, flexibility for students, and value to propel graduates to future success. Two thirds of the 12-month full-time program consists of core courses, such as managing people and performance and managerial accounting. The core curriculum is designed to provide a strong, comprehensive foundation in management with an ethical dimension to each course. The remaining third of the Gonzaga MBA program comprises elective coursework, allowing students the flexibility to tailor the program based on personal and professional goals. Students can pursue a general MBA by designing their own personalized program with elective credits from all disciplines. Or alternatively, students can earn a finance concentration by completing nine finance credits.
The city of Spokane is highly thought of as a place to launch a business and career, with the Wall Street Journal and Forbes Magazine both singing the town’s praises. Gonzaga students have historically enjoyed a 90% job placement rate within three to six months of graduation and with a starting salary of US$66,500 – proof if it were needed that employers recognize the unique advantages of Gonzaga's graduates.
