The Faculty has been dedicated to delivering a superior program of research and education ever since its establishment as the first economics faculty in Australia in 1920. With an enduring commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, national and international peer review, and excellence in teaching and research, the Faculty embarked on a major strategic transformation in 1999 with the appointment of Professor Peter Wolnizer as Dean.
Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business gain an education informed by the research findings of academic staff who include some of the world’s most eminent researchers in fields encompassing accounting, business strategy and international security. Teaching programs are also enhanced by the Faculty’s links with its many partners in the global business community and government, ensuring students receive an education that is intellectually rigorous, practical and highly relevant.

Today, the Faculty is recognised both domestically and internationally as one of the leading schools of business in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2004 the Faculty was awarded accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International for both its business and accounting programs, becoming, the only business school in Australia and one of five in the Asia-Pacific region to have dual AACSB accreditation In the same year, the Faculty achieved EQUIS accreditation through EFMD, the European Foundation for Management Development and is the only business school in Australia to have achieved all three international accreditations
In 2008, as testament to the Faculty's reputation and commitment to excellence, it became the only Australian member school of the Community of European Management Schools and International Companies (CEMS), a highly prestigious alliance of leaders in business and higher education. Along with its international accreditations, CEMS membership consolidates the Faculty’s profile in the international business school community of business
The Faculty sits amongst the elite of business schools – only 0.6 per cent of business schools globally have AACSB, EQUIS and CEMS accreditation and engagement.

Academic disciplines include: Accounting, Business Information Systems, Business Law, Economics, Finance, International Business, Marketing, Operations Management and Econometrics and Work and Organisational Studies.
The Faculty offers an extensive range of undergraduate (Bachelor), postgraduate coursework (Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters), and postgraduate research (Master of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy) award programs. The Faculty is among the few in Australia offering specialist postgraduate programs in Transport and Logistics, Organisational Coaching, International Business, Innovation and Enterprise, International Security and Management. 2009 has seen the commencement of the innovative and progressive Master of Management and Master of Management (CEMS) and launch of The University’s First Global Executive MBA program.
Our range of Faculty scholarships reflects our strong links with industry and the corporate sector as well as our commitment to students. The Careers and Employer Relations Office coordinates student placements, internships, work experience and mentoring programs. The Faculty also hosts a number of research centres, institutes and schools.
