MBA at Tuck School of Business: Alumni Profile
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedCarlos Blanco talks to TopMBA.com about why he chose to do his MBA at Tuck School of Business, and about how his career has changed since graduating.
Why did you decide to attend Tuck?
Tuck wasn't very international when I applied in 94. Had read some favorable press but didn't know anybody who had attended. I was very impressed however at the interview. I had Sally Jaegger, now a good friend of mine, interview me. That interview made the difference. Had several other interviews from top MBA programs, but in all cases, I felt I was an additional number in their lists, not with Tuck, not with Sally.
What are the benefits of studying outside your home country?
Very many, among which are the following : Living abroad, far from my family and friends helped me become more mature. I was able to concentrate the most in my MBA without any interference. I became friends with many other students from other parts of the world. It helped me with my English, which I hadn't spoken in quite sometime.
Did you apply for any scholarships? Which ones? Were you successful?
I applied to the Organization of American States (OAS) PRA Scholarship and was successful in getting it for a 100% of tuition and insurance. I paid for my living expenses.
What were your career objectives after your MBA? What were you doing before your MBA?
Was looking forward to work in Wall Street. Got into banking, but not exactly in Wall Street. I was a commercial banker in a local bank in Peru before going to Tuck.
How has your MBA helped your career?
It helped me getting a banking job in the US, but in the risk management side of the business. I have developed professionally since then and are now the chief risk officer in the Peruvian branch of that same American bank.
