MBA Student Profile: Samantha Hunter, IE
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedSamantha Hunter says she picked her MBA at IE for its strength in entrepreneurship and leadership. Find out what else works in IE's favour as she shares her experiences of her course there.
Even though I'm only 26, I've picked up a lot of marketing experience since graduating from university, working for a variety of companies, both in the UK and Canada. However I felt that to get the most out of my career I needed more knowledge of other aspects of business, particularly the financial side. I also wanted to get more exposure to other cultures and to learn a new language.
Spain was a natural choice for me. My parents live there for part of the year and I've become a big fan of the country. And Spanish seemed the best language to go for. It's the second most widely spoken business language after English and it gives you access to all the developing markets of Latin America.
The Instituto de Empresa was recommended to me by friends of my parents, who said that it was the best regarded school in the country and was particularly strong in two areas I'm very interested in - entrepreneurship and leadership.
It's extremely hard work but I can honestly say that I'm having a lot more fun than I expected to as well. I'm mixing with people from a wide range of backgrounds and from countries around the world, but the Madrid lifestyle is infectious. They might work hard, but they play even harder, so be prepared to get by on very little sleep if you decide to come here!
