MBA Student Profile: Robin Dickie, Nottingham
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedRobin Dickie's EMBA at Nottingham University gave him an opportunity to tailor the course according to his needs. He shares his academic journey with us here.
I was at an interesting stage in my career when I started the Nottingham University Business School Executive MBA. I was in a senior management role and was knocking on the door of an Executive Management position. I had recently had an evaluation that highlighted my development needs and I wanted a tailored solution that emphasised an external focus.
The Nottingham MBA was excellent on three counts: It was modular and I could choose, within reason, the topics I needed to cover. The flexible nature of the programme meant I could fit it into my workload and my domestic situation-new job, new house and new child! And I was able to link some of my MBA to my work. I found the style of teaching very balanced and supportive. It was enjoyable and informative to be working with other people from different businesses and environments.
When I started my MBA, I was a Senior Store Manager in retail and I am now a Chief Executive of a private equity backed retail business. In between, I was Managing Director of a large named retail business and Managing Director of a retail bank.
My MBA certainly helped develop strategic and policy skills and with the right experience (and a little personal competence) has been important to my career progress.
