TopMBA.com talks to Kenyatta Andrews about her decision to do an MBA, why she chose the University of Rochester and her future career plans. 

What were you doing before your MBA?

I worked for a mid-sized consulting and project-based company that specialized in accounting, audit, and IT related work.      

What were your main reasons for deciding to attend business school?

I wanted to update my skill set (especially quantitative skills) and understand the world of Finance from an Economics perspective in order to keep pace with the changes that were happening in the global business community.  On a personal level, I wanted to broaden my horizons in order to incorporate new people, experiences and challenges.      

What research did you undertake in selecting your school?

I reviewed the normal trade journals which published statistics and ranked MBA programs. I spoke to alum and visited the school.       

What were the main criteria in your selection?

My criteria for selecting a school was based upon the following:
1) strong Finance program based upon economic principle
2) small program and class size
3) located in the northeast      

How well do your think the MBA is regarded in your home country?

I think the MBA is well regarded in the US (my home country) if it is from a reputable school.      

How are you financing your studies?

I am financing my education through a combination of scholarship and loans.

Were you successful in obtaining a scholarship?

Yes. I was successful in obtaining a Consortium Fellowship.

What do you expect to do on graduation and where do you expect to be based?

I expect to work for a diversified financial services company and be based in New York City.      

Where do you see yourself in ten years time:

In ten years I expect to be a senior level employee at the Director or President level.      

How easy or difficult do you expect it to be to achieve these objectives?

I anticipate the combination of my work experience, education, and work ethic should make it moderately difficult to achieve my career objectives.
