Guido Schernewski tells us why he chose German school HHL to do his MBA program even though he had offers elsewhere.

1. What were you doing before your MBA?

I was working as a Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers Corporate Finance, in the section Valuation & Strategy, for three years.

2. What were your main reasons for deciding to attend business school?

- improvement of career opportunities
- expand my knowledge of management related topics (e.g. management of organisations)

3. What research did you undertake in selecting your school?

- Schools own resources (web-site, brochures)
- Rankings (FT, Junge Karriere)
- online resources like topmba.com

4. What were the main criteria in your selection?

- reputation of the business school
- quality of education
- accreditation

5. Why did you decide to study either in your own country or overseas?

Although having been admitted to foreign schools like Instituto de Empresas in Spain, I finally decided to stay at a Business School in my home country (HHL), firstly due HHL's reputation within Germany and secondly due to familiar reasons

6. How well do your think the MBA is regarded in your home country?

Germany is still a developing country in terms of the MBA. But in the last years the importance of MBA-studies increased, leading to new business schools entering the MBA-market and to a increased demand of MBA graduates by German companies.

7. Are there any well-known and/or successful entrepreneurs that are alumni of your school?

Some graduates from HHL have successfully opened their own business (e.g.spreadshirts.com)

8. How much do you expect to earn on graduation?

Depending upon the job, roughly some 70.000 fixum p.a.

9. What do you expect to do on graduation and where do you expect to be based?

I expect my self to work within the corporate-development- or M&A-department of an internationally operating European company. I expect myself based somewhere in Europe, but flexible with regard to the location.

10. How easy or difficult do you expect it to be to achieve these objectives?

It will be hard work to achieve my long term goals, but I am sure that also due to a sound postgraduate education I will succeed.
