TopMBA.com talks to Andrew Leyland about his decision to do an MBA, and how he chose London Business School

After obtaining an MEng in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College I worked as a Drilling Engineer on oil rigs around the world. I decided to study for an MBA so that I could branch out from my technical background and make a career move into Project Finance. The two year course at London Business School offered me the time to develop a deep understanding the subjects taught on the programme while providing me with the opportunity to reflect and explore different career options.

The true diversity of nationalities and backgrounds of people studying at London Business School has made it an exciting environment in which to learn and share ideas. The emphasis on team based learning has meant that I have been able to benefit from the experiences of people around me while making my own unique contribution. Furthermore, being in London means that I have access to a wide variety of potential recruiters in both industry and finance. This is helped by an extensive alumni network that facilitates frequent interaction with potential recruiters.

The course has helped me to develop a more critical approach to projects and view them in the context of investments rather than on their technical merit alone. The work has not been easy but the extra curricular sporting activities have enabled to let off steam now and again.
