MBA Alumni Profile: Dan Ioschpe, Tuck School of Business
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedTopMBA.com talks to Dan Ioschpe about his decision to do an MBA, his experiences at Tuck School of Business and his career since graduating.
Why did you decide to attend Tuck?
I was looking for a first class educational experience out of Brazil, in a nice location, with a low student / faculty ratio.
What research did you undertake in selecting Tuck?
Back in 1989 there was no internet, so most of my research was done in libraries and magazines. In 1989 Tuck was the 3rd best ranked school by Business Week.
What are the benefits of studying outside your home country?
It is a great chance to absorb a different culture, language, a different educational system as well as getting to know other places and people.
How did you finance your studies?
At that time there was no financial aid for foreigners, so I had to use (all of) my savings and also some additional help from my family.
Did you apply for any scholarships? Which ones? Were you successful?
I was not aware of any scholarship available for a foreign student at that time.
What were your career objectives after your MBA? What were you doing before your MBA?
My objective was to move to a more strategic position, where I could make relevant decisions, while before the MBA was totally focused on marketing and became a narrow path after a while.
How has your MBA helped your career?
The MBA was decisive. I really moved to a strategic position quickly and started to make relevant decisions very soon. The MBA certainly gave me a much better framework and processes to handle problems and opportunities.
What has been your financial impact on MBA career?
The result was very good, with very impressive IRR!
