Alumni Voices: Nottingham University Business School
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedSome illustrious voices from the MBA programs at Nottingham University Business School share their stories with us.
Jan Sisson
General Manager, On-shore Service
Siemens Energy – Renewable Energy
“I graduated in mechanical engineering with German and I have worked for Siemens in a number of roles in both the UK and Germany, always within the energy and power generation sectors.
The MBA course was pretty stretching, but I found that doing it part time allowed me to assimilate and test some of the learning during my working day. As well as specific knowledge and skills, I found that the course reminded me how to learn and balance theory and practical knowledge to achieve a better outcome in many situations.
After the MBA, I did an 18-month stint as business excellence manager in one of our large power plant service businesses, leading a number of improvement programs. Recently, I have moved to Siemens Renewable Energy to head up the UK service business – my dream job.”
Dr Kathy Teahon
Executive MBA (Healthcare)
“I was appointed consultant in Gastroenterology & Clinical Nutrition in Nottingham 12 years ago, during which I was responsible for setting up and leading our integrated medical surgical directorate. I led the pan-Trust ICT & Nutrition programs and a successful bid to build a new GBP£4 million endoscopy unit. In these roles I gained experience in business management but I still found myself trying to make my health service problems fit the solutions described in commercial business models.
My Executive MBA in healthcare offered a better foundation and theoretical understanding of business management as a speciality. The Business School has been extremely flexible in allowing me to access both the executive and evening programs. My first year was especially exciting when I won a scholarship from the school to cover my fees."
