Georgetown Global Forum in London April 17th

The McDonough School at Georgetown University is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top business schools. As part of their global outreach to prospective MBA students, the McDonough School has opened up its high-profile Georgetown Global Forum event held in London on April 17th to interested candidates.
Ahead of the event, QS caught up with Shari Hubert, Associate Dean of Graduate Admissions at Georgetown McDonough.
QS: Dean Hubert, can you give us a bit of an insight into the Georgetown MBA?
Dean Shari Hubert: I would be happy to; we are a pre-eminent global business school at the center of business and public policy, and situated in the one of the most powerful, dynamic and fastest growing cities in America – Washington, D.C.
Our Full-time MBA program centers on student success: we view our students as future alumni from the time they take the GMAT to the time they graduate and want to ensure that they feel a sense of community when they are here and understand the benefits of being part of a strong Georgetown alumni network when they leave.
QS: How does the Georgetown McDonough MBA program differ from others?
Hubert: Our unique integrative core curriculum prepares students for internships, jobs, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Students learn the analytical and persuasive skills needed to succeed in business and understand when to use them and how to evaluate their decisions ethically. Through our signature Global Business Experience, students gain hands-on international consulting experience and a global mindset that will last a lifetime.
QS: Can you give us an insight into how UK students perform as part of the Georgetown MBA?
Hubert: Our experience has shown us that students from Europe, and specifically the UK, do very well at Georgetown McDonough. The US and UK markets are inextricably linked, so having students who have worked across a variety of UK industries, and who can share their professional and personal experiences in the classroom, creates a more realistic and dynamic learning experience for everyone.
QS: And these students succeed once they graduate from the program?
Hubert: Over 91% of our international students without work authorization received an offer within 3 months of graduation. We provide our students with the tools and resources to land the jobs that will allow them to be successful in service to both business and society.
QS: That’s an impressive stat - can you give us an example of a student that has returned to the UK?
Hubert: We actually have a few examples, but the one that comes to mind is a current 2nd year student of ours, Michael Thompson. Michael was working at PwC before joining his family business DC Thompson in Dundee (a family-run media business with 400m turnover, whose operations include publishing the Beano!). He decided to pursue the Georgetown MBA as he was looking specifically at the East Coast and wanted a school that provided a General Management education. He liked the fact that US schools offered the two-year program with an internship opportunity for those who wanted to switch careers entirely. Michael will graduate and head back to Scotland with his family to take a position at his family’s company in a Corporate Finance role.
QS: Do many of your UK-based students return to the UK after they graduate? And will London-based alumni be part of the Georgetown Global Forum?
Hubert: We have close to 200 Georgetown McDonough alumni working and living in the UK. That’s exciting for us and helps us build our international brand in a region that is extremely competitive for MBAs and truly values the science of business as a means of economic empowerment and societal transformation.
And yes, our alumni will be heavily involved as our event takes place prior to the start of a larger university-wide series called John Carroll Weekend where all alumni, family and friends of the Georgetown community reunite for an annual celebration that has been a hallmark of the Georgetown University Alumni Association since 1952. To put that in context, that was the year Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne!
QS: And will the April 17th event be your first time in London?
Hubert: No I’ve been to London before, but I am excited to get back for a visit. I’m especially looking forward to meeting with prospective students who may see the Georgetown MBA as part of their future.
Associate Dean of Graduate Admissions Shari Hubert will attend the Georgetown Global Forum held at the Grosvenor House on Park Lane on the evening of April 17th. The event will be an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the business school, meet with high profile alumni and faculty members, and learn more about living and studying in Washington DC.
