Alumni Voices: Henley Business School

MBA alumni from the Henly Business School talk about the skills and experiences they have accumulated from their stint at the school.

They say that once in everybody's lifetime something happens that changes your life's course and for me this was my year in Henley.
I had trained as a nurse in the late 1960s and had not considered that I would do anything different to that. I was forty when I discovered that honourable and worthy though nursing is, I needed a change!
Every single skill that I was taught at Henley I have used over and over again and have no doubt at all that I would not be in the very fortunate position that I am in today if it were not for that one year.

Elizabeth Wagstaff, UK, Modular MBA 1993

The MBA opened my eyes to all aspects of management from targeted Marketing through to Finance and Human Resources. My experiences at Henley have benefited my career. Best of all though, what I learnt has also been useful to the many people who work for, and with us.

Alan Woods, UK, Modular MBA 2002

I completed my Henley MBA back in 1985. Within 4 years I was Managing Director of a fast growing finance company. Most recently I was Chief Executive of one of the UK's leading financial institutions. My MBA has given me tools that have helped me. When I did my Henley MBA, the Modular structure meant I could carry on working whilst studying. The benefit of this was reinforced by Henley's highly practical approach. At Henley you constantly look at how management principles are applied in the real world. This was great for me.

Management practice changes all the time. So it's not just about what you learn. It's also about opening your mind and finding out how to apply what you learn. Henley gives you the capacity to think. You have its inspiring setting, its knowledge and experience, its unique way of working and its networks. Together they are a powerful combination. It is the only business school to provide a mandatory course with a focus on corporate reputation, corporate social responsibility and corporate governance. Its values are very much my values.

Arif Zaman

I was disillusioned in my current line of work in New Zealand and thought that an MBA could give me some inspiration! I learnt so much on the MBA about myself and was surprised by my learning capacity and also how much I had to give and share with others. Henley's excellent faculty really brought the programme to life with their academic and practical expertise. Henley did so much for my self-esteem and confidence in giving me that extra boost to seek new challenges.
