Nyenrode Business Universiteit is the only private university in the Netherlands. It was created in 1946 by captains of industry from leading Dutch corporations such as KLM, Shell, Unilever and Philips, who perceived the need for action-orientated and internationally-focused business education in the post-World War II landscape.
Thus, Nyenrode was born, with “for and by business” as its motto, and rebuilding the economic position of the Netherlands as its goal.
Nyenrode is located in a unique 13th-century castle estate. This locale is truly eye-catching, and includes a deer park, a maze, a rose garden, hiking and jogging trails through the woods, a lane with centuries-old chestnut trees, among other features that make the estate truly unique. Since 2001, it has enjoyed protection under the Historic Buildings and Ancient Monuments Act.
