Asia-Pacific’s 10 Top Business Schools for Research Excellence
By Tim Dhoul
Updated UpdatedThe number of top business schools in Asia-Pacific that are particularly known for their research excellence was a standout finding in the newly released QS Global 250 Business Schools Report 2017.
Schools offering full-time MBA programs in Asia-Pacific represented 80% of the number of business schools around the world that are classified in the report’s ‘Top-Tier Research Quadrant’. This category – one of four in the report – is defined as containing business schools whose academic reputations around the world are among the finest, but whose reputations among international employers are yet to reach the same heights.
The research strength of top business schools underpins the quality of teaching and the exposure to new business approaches and thought leadership prospective students can expect to find in their MBA programs. With the report’s results stemming from a global survey of 8,376 academics in the fields of business and management, the fact that so many schools in Asia-Pacific score so well for research excellence is an indication of how highly regarded the region’s MBA programs are.
But, which are the region’s top business schools for research excellence? The table below shows the top 10:

Four MBA study locations are represented in this top 10 altogether. Singapore has the highest number of entrants, with four, and NUS Business School leads the top 10 for the city-state. HKUST Business School, second in this table, is one of three business schools based in Hong Kong to feature here. Australia may not be able to match that number, but both of its two schools in this top 10 – Melbourne Business School and AGSM – are in the top five. South Korea’s Seoul National University completes the picture and means that top business schools in India are notable by their absence from this top 10.
