Scholarships on Offer for MBA Hopefuls

Finding the right scholarship can help make any graduate's stint with an MBA program much smoother. Read on to see what the various scholarship offerings are and how you can avail of them.

For the last six year, the QS Education trust in association with QS World MBA Tour has both funded and facilitated MBA scholarships for over 60 young professionals around the world to study at some of the world's best business schools and postgraduate institutions. In 2007 MBA scholarships worth $1.1 million were allocated to winners from countries as diverse as Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Columbia, Korea, Ukraine, UK and the USA.Every year millions in local currencies are awarded to MBA applicants in order to help them finance their way through the best business schools that they have chosen. "QS Scholarship winners are united by their demonstration of responsible leadership and community commitment, in very varied circumstances," says Nunzio Quacquarelli, the director of QS. "All of these young people have done something remarkable in their lives." In 2007, QS Education Trust granted scholarships to:

Juan Jos Ospina, from Colombia, who was awarded the QS World MBA Tour Leadership Scholarship after revolutionizing the Worker's Cooperative of Colombian Coffee Growers, by investing their revenue in the coffee futures market and benefiting the families of 500,000 workers in that country. He visited the QS World MBA Tour in Bogota and is now studying an MBA Degree at Chicago GSB. William Morgan, from the UK, who attended the QS World MBA Tour in London and has commenced a one-year MBA Degree with ESADE in Barcelona. He was awarded a QS World MBA Tour Community Scholarship after working with disadvantaged children in Chile, for Macmillan Cancer Relief and for a small charity called London 21. South Korea's Soo Ah Lee, who attended the QS World MBA Tour in Seoul, was accepted to MIT's Sloan School of Management for Fall 2007 to do an MBA Degree. She won a QS World MBA Tour Community Scholarship.

The QS World MBA Tour Community Scholarship will help Bulgarian Nadejda Gountcheva, who attended our Fair in Sofia, to do her MBA program at INSEAD. And the last QS World MBA Tour Community Scholarship winner, Monisha Saran, an Indian-American, became involved in race relations at a young age during high school. She used her skills and motivation to create a state-wide initiative to improve race relations for diverse California public schools, and has been involved in several race relations initiatives ever since. Several top schools also offer scholarships to candidates attending the QS World MBA Tour. Chicago Business School awarded the $40,000 World MBA Tour scholarship to Konstantin Magaletskyi of the Ukraine, who Rose Martinelli describes as 'an outstanding applicant.'

Wharton will award scholarships worth $30,000 through the Tour for the third consecutive year. Thomas Caleel, Admissions Director at Wharton says, "We were astounded by the number of applicants from the World MBA Tour, and each year we have selected exceptional candidates."

MIP- Politecnico di Milano award winners include; Katherine Keblusek from the United States and Alberto Cimenti, who has both Italian and Brazilian nationality.

Face-to-face: Potential MBA students will get the opportunity to apply for the next round of scholarships, which now includes contributions from several new schools such as ESMT, Rotman and CASS, which will be worth $1.2 million, when the QS World MBA Tour visits venues around the globe this Summer and Fall.

Scholarships at the World MBA Tour 2008

The Wharton School Scholarship
The Joseph Wharton Fellowship is awarded to the student that best exemplifies the values of the Wharton community. It acknowledges demonstrated achievements in scholarship, proven leadership, a commitment to professional excellence, and an impact on an organization and/or group. The Wharton School, in association with the World MBA Tour, is making one such fellowship available to one admitted student who has registered for a World MBA Tour event. The scholarship is worth US$15,000 per annum (awarded each year the student is enrolled, subject to the student remaining in good academic standing).

Chicago Graduate School of Business
Chicago is offering one merit-based scholarship worth $40,000 (year 1 = $20k, year 2 = $20k) to an attendee of the World MBA Tour

Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto
Rotman is offering a $35,000 merrit-based scholarship for an non-Canadian student from anywhere in the world

Cass Business School
Cass Business School in London is offering 3 scholarships worth a total of $160,000 (£85,000 or €125,000) :
- 1 full scholarship worth $47,500 / £25,000 / €37,000 for women on their full-time program
- 1 full scholarship worth $47,500 / £25,000 / €37,000 for men on their full-time program
- 1 full scholarship worth $65,000 / £35,000 / €51,000 for a student on their modular EMBA program

Politecnico di Milano Scholarship Candidates attending the World MBA tour will qualify for scholarships worth up to €500,000 at one of Europea's top schools for management and design.

Instituto de Empresa Scholarship The New-York based Instituto de Empresa Foundation, IE Fund, and World MBA Tour, are to award an annual scholarship for the Instituto de Empresa International MBA Programme to a woman with an outstanding academic record and a high potential for leadership and professional advancement. The US$36,000 scholarship covers 100% of programme fees.

Ashridge Business School Scholarship worth over £75,000 from an Ashridge 50th Anniversary bursary fund

Wim Kok Scholarship at Nijenrode This merit-based scholarship, open to nationals of the new European Union member states wishing to follow the Nijenrode International MBA programme. It is worth €15,000, and covers part of the tuition fees.

QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) scholarships
The QS Scholarships are awarded each year to six people who have demonstrated socially responsible leadership. Applicants must have attended a QS World MBA Tour or QS World Grad School Tour fair in person to be eligible for the scholarships. QS Scholarship winners are united, not by a great academic background, or working for a top-tier employer, though many possess these attributes, but by their demonstration of responsible leadership, in very varied circumstances.
