Dating back to 1917, Washington University’s Olin Business School is one of US’ most storied business education institutions. The school has offered MBA programs for almost 70 years, and is named for Olin Corporation chairman John M Olin. Throughout its long existence, Olin has focused on global thinking and international-standard education, with the school’s current mission statement explicitly noting that it aims to “produce world-class business leaders who have a strong value system and think on a global scale”. With leadership top of the agenda, Olin MBA graduates are perfectly prepared to lead the business world into a future in which agility and global sensitivity are mandatory requirements.

Olin has a student-focused mentality, with small class sizes a priority. In keeping with this, the application process has been deliberately streamlined, with applicants only required to submit a one-page CV, responses to two essay questions, academic transcripts, and GMAT/GRE scores. There’s no application fee, and no need to submit letters of recommendation. Tuition is arranged in a similarly straightforward manner, with the flat fee of US$57,900 per academic year applicable to all students. There are also several scholarships available, covering all or part of the tuition costs, or aimed at covering living expenses while studying.

In line with Olin’s focus on students, both as a group and as individuals, the academic content of the full-time MBA course is designed to be tailored to specific career goals. Almost two-thirds of the total credit hours are spent on elective courses, allowing early specialization or an intentionally general course. There are also international study opportunities with partner schools, allowing students to immerse themselves in a new culture – this is perfect for future global leaders, or for those who know they want to work in a particular part of the world after graduating. Additionally, students can take a hands-on role working in a consulting capacity for domestic and international businesses, with both corporate consulting and non-profit consulting opportunities on offer, allow students to hone their practical skills and deal with real-life business problems.

This practical education leaves Olin full-time MBA graduates ready for any business challenge, and this preparedness is reflected in the school’s graduate salary and employment statistics. Of the most recent graduating class, 97% reported having accepted a job within three months of graduation, with a median base salary of US$107,500. An impressive 45% of accepted positions came through the Olin internship program, with 15% coming through alumni, staff or faculty referrals, demonstrating the inherent career value of the Olin MBA program.
