TRIUM Global Executive MBA: Alumni Interview

Ryan Bogan talks to TopMBA.com about his decision to go back to business school, and his experiences on the TRIUM Global EMBA

Enrolling in one of the world’s top Executive MBA programs, Ryan Bogan expected to be taught by the experts. What he hadn’t anticipated was that he’d learn just as much from his classmates.

“My cohort consisted of 67 senior business leaders, representing over 35 different countries, each one of whom had lessons to teach, not only about becoming a more effective business leader, but also about being a more thoughtful, focused and globally-aware individual.”

Bogan, an alumnus of TRIUM’s Global EMBA, had spent 12 years running an aerospace engineering company before he decided to pursue his Executive MBA. “I ultimately sold the company on behalf of the shareholders, and had developed confidence in my basic business instincts. I also understood, however, that to continue to stretch myself to the point where I could successfully operate under a more intense and competitive spotlight, I needed to develop a more robust toolbox and improve my ability to think critically,” Bogan says.

He does admit, however, the he wished he had gone into the program with a more realistic understanding of the time commitment required to complete the degree. “The intensity of the academic rigor does not fully register until you are trying to get through seemingly endless pages of readings on complex topics such as finance, marketing and risk management, and complete pre-and post-module assignments, all the while trying to balance work and family obligations,” he says. “It is sad but true that I pulled more all-nighters during the EMBA program than during four years of undergraduate study.”

Bogan is already encouraging friends and co-workers “who are up for the challenge” to pursue an EMBA. “It’s easy to grow stagnant in one’s career and fall into an unproductive routine. A good EMBA program will challenge existing conventions and make you just uncomfortable enough to change the way you think about the world, and the people around you.”
