EMBA Electives and Group Work
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedTopMBA.com looks at two components of Executive MBAs: electives and group work.
Electives
Electives are specific subjects you choose throughout your EMBA studies to complement the core course modules. This component gives EMBA participants specific insight into subjects that may of particular interest. The number of elective courses on offer depends on the business school, so check the program features of the EMBAs you are looking into.
Group work
Study for an Executive MBA and you’ll never be alone – you’ll have support from your family, friends and colleagues as well as your EMBA classmates. And it is these likeminded professionals, who have also chosen to pursue an EMBA, who you’ll work most closely with – particularly when it comes to group assignments, required for a lot of courses and class deliverables! Teamwork is one of the key components of any Executive MBA program, giving participants the unique opportunity to work with executives from a broad range of industries and job functions. One of the most challenging but rewarding aspects of an EMBA program, group work also gives participants a chance to work on personal skills while enhancing the EMBA networking experience. Unlike the company project, your work groups will change for each course/module, therefore, the different elements each member brings to the table will ensure you, the EMBA participant, are treated to a dynamic study environment.
You will find yourself working in teams almost on a permanent basis, which will require juggling with different groups for the various course assignments, often over different time zones. Added to this will be the teamwork related to your company project, which once a project has been picked and groups formed, a steady group throughout your program. So when you hear that an EMBA program helps you hone your multi-tasking and time management skills, it’s 110% true!
