Tikrit University

Located in the Iraqi city of Tikrit – situated northwest of Baghdad – the University of Tikrit was first established in 1987. It is one of the largest universities in Iraq and today has a student population of approximately 12,000. After the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the city of Tikrit was a site of conflict and the university was impacted by this. However, since the government regained control of the city from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in 2015, the university has been able to flourish.
