The University of Maryland University College has been awarded a ten year contract by the US Department of Defence for the exclusive provision of undergraduate and graduate instruction at US military bases across Europe, which includes a military MBA.

Though the contract is worth a total figure of US$250 million to the University of Maryland University College (UMUC), that covers the entire educational offering provided to US service personnel located in Europe, and not just the military MBA program.

An MBA for the US Military: The UMUC MBA

According to the Financial Times, this will be the first time that the UMUC MBA program will be physically taught outside of the US. Previously, an online version of the UMUC MBA was the only international representation of the school's MBA program, even though school has been sending faculty overseas since 1949.

"Serving the needs of the US military is in [the University of Maryland University College's] DNA," says Javier Miyares, president of UMUC. "We are extremely pleased and proud to continue our long history of educating troops overseas. This award affirms the dedication of our faculty and staff abroad and the commitment that is shared throughout the university to providing a quality education to those who sacrifice so much to protect us."

The UMUC MBA for the US military will be taught at US military bases in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, and the UK, with further locations a possibility if required.
