Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford has launched a new module for its Oxford MBA and executive MBA students, aimed at tackling some of the world's worst problems via an innovative online action-oriented community consisting of academics, students, and alumni.

Currently a module as part of the Oxford MBA and executive MBA programs, as well as accessible by Oxford's alumni, GOTO (Global Opportunities, Threats: Oxford) will focus on a different, globally pertinent topic each year.

According to the school, this year the program is "focused on the business and policy issues created by the long term trend towards global ageing and changing demographics; identifying the global pinch points, how patterns of consumption will change within societies, looking at where shifts in population will impact most upon the built and natural environment, how healthcare systems will cope and how this future will be paid for."

Future topics include 'Big Data', and scarcity of resources, with faculty and departments from across Oxford University lending their expertise.

Oxford MBAs Learning Online

Speaking to TopMBA.com, Janet Smart, senior research fellow at Saïd Business School explained how the Oxford MBA students will be taught on the course.

"Online the multimedia GOTO platform provides curated content, compiled by faculty from the Saïd Business School and other schools and departments at Oxford University," Smart says. "Short videos present the thinking of leading academics from across the university, offering unique insights to inform business thinkers.

"Students work in small teams to develop think pieces, which they discuss at three face to face tutorials. The tutorials are led by faculty from across the university, as well as from within the school. Students can publish their best work on the platform, and Saïd alumni can read, comment and discuss their work. As an integrated platform for studying and sharing ideas across disciplines, and across generations, GOTO is unique."
