NUS Business School Announces its Cerebration Winners: MBA News
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedNUS Business School has named MBA students from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School to be the winners of its annual business case competition, Cerebration.
Cerebration – which is organized by NUS Business School MBA students – attracted over 650 entries from around the world. Teams of up to three MBA students were tasked with finding and presenting practical solutions to real business challenges faced by the sponsors of the competition.
“We are honored to be able to host the best minds from business schools around the world and give them a platform to develop solutions to some of the issues facing businesses, society and emerging economies today”, said Alejandro Uribe, an MBA student at NUS Business School and a leading organizer of Cerebration 2013 in a press release.
The final saw the team from UNC Kenan-Flagler see off rivalry from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and The Indian School of Business, who were named first and second runners-up respectively. It was held on November 14 in the presence of Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, a member of Singapore’s governing People's Action Party.
UNC Kenan-Flagler triumph for personal mobility vision
The winning case from UNC Kenan-Flagler stemmed from Daimler Financial Services’ desire to find an innovative approach to transport among emerging mega-cities. The MBA team subsequently outlined a plan to enhance productivity that might otherwise be wasted in traffic through Wi-Fi-enabled shared vehicles.
"We enjoyed and learned much from Cerebration 2013. We also used the knowledge we have gained in our MBA program”, said Yohei Yamamoto, of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s winning team that claimed a US$10,000 prize.
Aside from Daimler, the remaining sponsors providing the inspiration behind the business case challenges were Lenovo, Monsanto, Singapore Airlines (SIA) Engineering Company and Spring Singapore.
The day before the final, Cerebration – now its ninth year – held semi-finals contested by nine teams, all of whom were granted a free trip to Singapore to present their cases. Among the nine were MBA teams from Canada’s Rotman School of Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School and the University of St Gallen in Switzerland.
