As of May 2014, Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management will deliver a brand new MBA program based in New York City. The new Cornell MBA program, which lasts a year, promises to provide students with an exciting fusion of business, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in a fast-paced and stimulating learning environment.  There is a huge buzz around the uniqueness of this new interdisciplinary Cornell MBA. As Johnson Dean Soumira Dutta explains, “We are introducing a new product into the market; there’s no other similar product in the market”.

New Cornell Johnson MBA program hopes to create the next generation of leaders in the technology and digital industry.

According to Dutta, this new MBA will focus on creating ‘business leaders for the digital economy’. In order to help create and equip the next generation of leaders in the technology industry, it will offer students an exciting range of specially tailored courses which will be taught in a new style that differs from those used on more traditional MBA programs. As Dutta notes, “If you look at most business schools, the curriculums were designed…typically in the last century for a way of doing business and a generation that is quite different. Things have changed quite dramatically in terms of how technology is changing the face of business and innovation,” Dutta said. “I don’t claim we have all the right answers, but I hope we’re able to experiment, learn and be agile”.

The year-long program will take place at Cornell Tech’s campus in Chelsea and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management in Ithaca, with students starting classes in May in Ithaca before moving to New York City for the fall and spring semesters. According to Dutta, the new Cornell MBA program will initially be made up of a cohort of approximately 35 to 40 students, with plans to expand in the next five to eight years and take on up to 60 students to each program’s class.

The new MBA program looks to be a worthwhile investment for those interested in the technology industry, as Cornell promises that students will "graduate in May 2015 with a deep understanding of how technology is changing the way business works, and as leaders ready to start innovative businesses and transform organizations”.
