More than US$250,000 in MBA scholarships awarded
Having awarded more than US$250,000 in scholarships to minority students based in Houston, widening participation and outreach projects lies at the heart of the organization’s ethos.
As President of the NBMBAA Houston division, Darrell James states in a recent press release, "NBMBAA is entirely focused on advancing its members and empowering youth to achieve a higher education, fulfill their dreams and be prepared to fill our shoes one day as civic leaders". The Houston division also runs a successful Undergraduate and MBA Scholarship Program as well as The Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) High School Mentoring Program.
Themed, ‘Courageous Leadership: Owning our Own Success’, the conference promises to be an inspiring and “exceptional opportunity” as James states, “for everyone to experience what NBMBAA has to offer, network, grow in ways unimaginable and stay connected locally long after the conference has ended". Key speakers include Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton, founder and president of the National Action Network and Robert L. Johnson, founder and chairman, OppsPlace LLC. The conference is open to non-members as well as members and their familes.
