London Business School to Host Annual Energy Industry Summit: MBA News
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedThis Friday, November 29, London Business School will host its annual energy industry summit. Its aim is to provide attendees with an insight into the interaction between global energy corporations, sustainable energy innovators and government agencies to discuss how this will affect the future of the energy industry.
The Global Energy Summit is organized by London Business School Energy Club and, now in its 10th year, is the largest student-led event put on by the school. The event is to be held in the heart of London, a stone’s throw from Westminster Abbey.
This year, the summit’s theme is ‘Energy frontiers: pushing the boundaries’ with keynote speakers and panel discussions to focus on the economic, geopolitical, technological and environmental frontiers currently being pushed to meet the world’s ever-expanding energy demands. It will then raise the question of what the subsequent repercussions are for the energy industry, and for society as a whole.
World Energy Council’s secretary general to speak at event
Dr. Christoph Frei, secretary general of the World Energy Council, which is headquartered in London, is to be one of four keynote speakers at London Business School’s 2013 event.
The stated mission of the World Energy Council is, ‘To promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all people’. It collects data designed to benefit the changing energy industry and produces numerous publications.
For example, World Energy Trilemma 2013 includes the 2013 Energy Sustainability Index, a global ranking of 129 countries based on their performance across three industry challenges – energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability. This year the top five performing countries were Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden, Austria and the UK.
Last year, London Business School’s Global Energy Summit attracted more than 300 attendees from the energy industry as well as business school students, academic thought-leaders, the media and policy-makers. The school’s Energy Club currently enjoys a membership of over 2,000 students, alumni and faculty members to meet its aim of developing strong ties between London Business School, energy companies and key players within the sector.
