How I am Applying to Business Schools
By Grant Me Admission
Updated UpdatedDo you have a good plan for applying to business schools? In this post, I am going to give you an inside look on how I do it, and also explore the transferable skills/techniques/tools you can employ during the process.
It all starts with goals and visualizing the progress of these goals. In a post on my personal blog about my MBA plan I listed all the tasks and MBA application deadlines assigned to applying to business schools. Ultimately, it felt really complicated and ‘busy’ (probably because the entire process is complicated and busy). I have reorganized the data to show my progress in a more visually appealing (and detailed) manner, which I view every single morning.
How I make this actionable
Ultimately, a pretty table is not going to cut it when you are applying to business schools. You have to make the goals actionable (with MBA application deadlines and other due dates). And you have to stay on top of it. I utilized Wunderlist (a great app/website that is free) to create a list for every school with tasks and MBA application deadlines. Wunderlist will then provide me a list of objectives to complete for the current day and current week. I highly recommend using this free resource.
Lessons learned and what can you do?
Not all tools like Wunderlist work for all people who are applying to business schools; however, that said, I do believe the philosophy behind this is sound. Ultimately, you should be physically seeing/viewing your progress every day, which will keep you focused on your big goals and keep you inspired. You also should be keeping track of your progress and be prepared for upcoming tasks to keep you on track for MBA application deadlines and your momentum up, something Wunderlist helps with. This combination of staying inspired and keeping your momentum by completing tasks will help a ton to keep you on track when you are applying to business schools.
