CNN President Speaks at IESE Business School Forum: MBA News
By QS Contributor
Updated UpdatedSpeaking at IESE Business School's Global Leadership Forum in New York on July 12th, the newly appointed president of CNN Worldwide, Jeff Zucker has addressed some of the many challenges faced by news publishers in today's fast evolving world of online publishing.
“We’ve romanticized the piece of paper,” Zucker explained, answering IESE Business School Professor Bill Baker's questions on the evolution of publishing.
“There’s been more change in media in the past five years than there’s been in the previous 50. You cannot be above how people want to consume their news and information. If the reader or viewer does not want to consume in a certain way, then you have to evolve with it, you have to change the quality of the business model. Because at the end of the day, the consumer decides.”

Zucker also expressed that for him, the long-held notion of news publishers needing to be first with a story is not always true. Rather, in a statement that could easily be compared to a manager making a fast, ill-fated decision opposed to one that draws on research and experience, accuracy of a news story is of paramount concern.
“Everyone who has a camera and a Twitter feed thinks they’re a journalist now. I don’t think it’s the role of CNN to necessarily have to be first, because it’s not possible,” Zucker explained to the IESE Business School Global Leadership Forum.
“People come to CNN to see if it’s true,” he said. “I don’t care if we’re last on reporting something. I want it to be right.”
