The Executive MBA is no longer a perk reserved only for top executives with professional experience whose companies are footing the bill. Many executives are choosing to pay for the prestigious education on their own but this also means they need to find the funds to cover their expensive studies.

Executive MBA scholarships may just be the answer to the conundrum this creates. Once reserved for full-time MBA students, more and more scholarships are now on offer for Executive MBA participants as well.

So how can you find out what’s on offer? Your chosen business school is the first place to check, but also be sure to look into what is available from local associations, professional groups, and even your local or national government just to name a few.

You can, of course, expect a lot of competition for such funding. Therefore, you have to stand out from the crowd and make your scholarship application shine if you want to get chosen as one the lucky beneficiaries. Here are five tips to get the scholarship committee’s attention.

Do your Executive MBA scholarships research

Check out what Executive MBA scholarships are on offer. As mentioned above, there are a number of places that have money available for top, qualified Executive MBA candidates, so ensure your research is thorough. QS also has scholarships available and you can look into our opportunities here. Seek out scholarships that have criteria that closely match your professional experience and what you have to offer. Don’t waste your time or the committee’s applying for a scholarship with criteria you do not fit.

Get a head start on the scholarship deadline

Aim to send in your Executive MBA scholarship application as early as possible. Institutions receive many requests and if you want to make sure yours gets their full attention, get it in far before the last minute rush.

Give your scholarship application some thought

A scholarship application can be surprisingly demanding so be sure to set aside a good amount of time to complete it. Also, you may find that there are a number of scholarships for which you qualify, so make sure to choose the ones with which you best match so that you can tailor your responses to fit perfectly with what they are seeking.

Put yourself and your professional experience in the best light

Just as with your program application, your Executive MBA scholarship application is not the time to be timid about all that you have accomplished. Be sure to draw upon your professional experience. Focus on your achievements, professional, academic and personal, and shine the light on what makes you an ideal candidate.

Ask questions of the scholarship committee

Don’t hesitate to ask questions should you have any. Far from being a bother, it shows that you are fully interested and want to take the steps to get accurate information so you can provide the best application possible.
