There are significant benefits to an MBA, from the friends and networking opportunities to the work experience, job prospects and significant business knowledge. Despite all this, possibly the most attractive reason for doing an MBA isn't even something students experience during their studies - it's the post-MBA salary. Most graduates can look forward to a significant bump in pay after their course is completed, but this in itself can be dependant on a wealth of factors - not only their industry and position but the country they choose to live in.

The QS TopMBA Jobs & Salary Trends Report 2018 has just been released, and it lists the top nations in the world for MBA salary pay this year. These are averages taken from respondents to the QS Employer Survey, and will, therefore, vary depending on industry and job role.

This infographic lists the top 10 countries for MBA salary around the world this year, find out which came top:

Interesting trends in the top countries for MBA salaries

The top country this year is Switzerland - unsurprising given the country's famed high salary levels and robust currency. The top five is composed of two European countries (Switzerland and France), two North American countries (Canada and the USA) and Australia. Only the top two nations this year post a basic salary (bonus not included) of more than US$100,000, something to which many MBAs aspire.

The final five nations in the top 10 paint an interesting picture:

  • The UK is sixth, having fallen one spot since last year.
  • Italy has climbed the ranking this year, moving from ninth to seventh.
  • Singapore has dropped two spots, moving down to the eighth position in this year's edition.
  • Japan has moved into the top 10 once again for the first time in four years.
  • Germany slides into 10th place, just making it into the top countries for MBA salaries this year.

Countries which didn't make it into the top 10

There are no Latin American, African or Middle Eastern nations in the top 10 this year, however, Chile did make it to 11th place offering an average salary of US$73,600. In 12th place is a country hugely popular with MBAs: India - in which the average MBA salary is US$66,500.
